戰國時代，宋國有一個農夫，每天都辛苦地耕田，只希望家人都能吃得飽。有一天，他正在忙著除草，忽然不知道從哪裡衝出一隻兔子，拼命地跑著，一不小心，撞上田裡的大樹，當場撞死了。
農夫趕緊抓起兔子，高興地說：「今天運氣真好，讓我撿到這麼大的兔子！ 如果一天能抓到一隻兔子，一個月就有三十隻！我只要靠賣兔子，就不用這麼辛苦地工作了！」
從這天開始，他再也不耕田了，每天只坐在樹下，等著撿兔子回家。到最後，田地都長滿了雜草，兔子連個影子都沒有。全國的人都笑這個農夫，笑他只會用過去的經驗等兔子出現，不會想新的辦法抓兔子。
During the Warring States period, there was a farmer in the State of Song. He worked hard tilling his fields every day, so that his family would have enough to eat. One day, as he was busy weeding the field, a rabbit dashed out of nowhere, running as fast as it could. It ran into a large tree in the field by accident, and died on the spot.
The farmer quickly grabbed the rabbit and said happily, “This is my lucky day, I’ve found such a big rabbit! If I catch a rabbit every day, that’s thirty rabbits in a month! If I sell them, I won’t have to work so hard in the future! ”
From that day on, he stopped tilling his fields, and sat beneath the tree all day, waiting for a rabbit. Eventually, his fields were overgrown with weeds, but there was not a single rabbit to be seen. People across the country laughed at the farmer for relying on past experience to wait for rabbits to appear, instead of thinking of new ways to catch them.
